The Denison Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects about 8500 people living in an area of 170 square miles. We are one of the few cities in Iowa with a volunteer department that has a Class 5 ISO rating. We operate out of 1 station that protects residential, commercial, and rural areas. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status.

The City of Denison is the county seat of Crawford County and is also the largest city in the county. Our commercial exposures consist of many retail outlets, a large business district, and many agricultural oriented manufacturers and industries. Denison is also the location of the convergence of two state and two federal highways, the main east/west line of the Union Pacific Railroad, and a north/south line of the Illinois Central Railroad.
